The National School (Church of England)
The Beccles National School in Ravensmere once stood on the site now occupied by the Fire Station. When it was opened in 1868 it was described as "a handsome roomy structure in red brick, having Gothic windows with stone mullions. The roof is slate, appropriately ornamented & surmounted by an elegant bell turret".
Boys and girls were taught separately and there was classroom accommodation for 150 boys, 100 girls and 50 infants.
The school was closed in 1939 and the headmaster Francis B. Watkis moved from Beccles to take on the headmastership at Snape. After closure the building was altered to accommodate the local fire engine but was later demolished to make way for a purpose built Fire Station.
